Dr. McKaila Manus

Dr. McKaila Manus’ path into naturopathic medicine began with a deep curiosity about people, culture, and the interconnectedness of health. As an Anthropology major with a strong foundation in biology, she became fascinated by the ways environment, lifestyle, and community shape human wellbeing. This early academic lens inspired her to pursue a more holistic approach to healthcare - one that honors both the science and the story behind each patient.

She went on to earn her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University, where she trained in naturopathic primary care, physical examination, botanical medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle therapeutics. Throughout her clinical rotations, Dr. Manus gained experience in diverse community settings, supporting individuals with a wide range of health needs while learning to approach each case with curiosity, compassion, and clinical precision.

Before joining Essential Medicine, Dr. Manus worked as a Care Manager within a cardiology-led healthcare team, where she assisted in patient education, coordinated transitions of care, and collaborated across disciplines to support long-term health outcomes. This experience strengthened her belief in integrative, whole-person medicine and the importance of meeting patients exactly where they are.

At the heart of her work, Dr. Manus values clarity, connection, and partnership. She is committed to helping patients understand the root contributors to their health and creating individualized care plans that integrate nutrition, botanical medicine, lifestyle therapeutics, and functional testing when indicated. Her calm, attentive presence invites patients to feel seen, supported, and empowered in their healing process.

Today, Dr. Manus is honored to serve the La Jolla community through her work at Essential Medicine, offering thoughtful, evidence-informed care designed to support long-term balance and wellbeing.
